Illinois Rent Assistance
The Illinois Rental Housing Support program is the nation’s largest state rental assistance program. The Illinois Rent Assistance program supports an estimated 4000 families those who find difficult to make ends meet. With the current financial crisis and increasing unemployment, the need for rental assistance is on its ever increasing note. Most of the do not have sufficient funds to bring bread and a certain portion are not able to find an affordable housing in Illinois due to the special needs of the family members.
The Illinois Rent Assistance program is administered by the Local Administering Agencies locally. Potential LAA will apply for funding and contracts directly with the landlords. The Illinois tenants wanting to rent through the Illinois Rent Assistance program will need to apply with the landlord. The subsidy will be paid to the landlord directly each month and this is unit based. This program comes under Section 8 which has 2 types.

The first Illinois Rent Assitance program one is project-based section 8 which is tied to the physical unit and the person need not pay more than 30% of their income towards rent and the remainder is paid by the Federal Government. Second Illinois Rent Assistance one is tenant-based section 8 which is tied to the particular person and he will be given a voucher which can be used in any place within the country and with the same rules for the first kind. |
